Women in boxing honored!

The World Boxing Hall of Fame announces its "Salute to Women in Boxing" luncheon event to be held on March 30, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at the Commerce Casino, 6131 E. Telegraph Road, Commerce Ca., 90040. The festivities will begin at 2 p.m. and will include lunch. Tickets are priced at $40 per person. The honorees for this historic event are Jackie Kallen, Debbie Caplan, Lorraine Chargin, Lucia Rjker and Bridgett "Baby Doll" Riley.

Jackie Kallen, known in boxing as "The First Lady of Boxing" will receive the Aileen Eaton Award, named after Hall of Fame promoter Aileen Eaton who was the promoter of the historic Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, and a pioneer for women in professional boxing.

Debbie Caplan, one of the most recognizable faces in boxing circles and a consummate professional who has worked with virtually all of the major champions and promoters will be honored as "Women of the Year".

Lorraine Chargin, who has promoted boxing events since the early 60's with her husband Don, will be honored as "Promoter of the Year".

Bridgett "Baby Doll" Riley will be honored with the "Lily Rodriguez" Award for her contributions to the sport of Boxing. Lily Rodriguez was inducted into The World Boxing Hall of Fame in October, 2007.

Lucia Rijker will be honored with the "Special Achievement "award for her accomplishments in the world of boxing.

Also honored will be female world champions Elena "Baby Doll' Reid, Layla McCarter, and Carina Moreno.

Special recognition will be given to Hall of Fame member Gwen Adair and Josie Mejia, director and treasurer of The World Boxing Hall of Fame.
