| Cappiello inks Donnie Orr! March 26, 2008 By Shane Hennigan
Cappiello Promotions
held a press conference Monday, at the Sons of Italy in Revere, Massachusetts
to officially announce their April 12th "Ethnic Invasion" boxing
show, to be held at The Roxy in Boston, Massachusetts, as well as the
signing of undefeated middleweight prospect, and 2000 Canadian Olympian,
Donald "Donnie Boy" Orr. The eight bout card will also feature four more recently signed Cappiello Promotions' fighters, to include - undefeated Boston junior welterweight, and full-time Boston Police Officer Anthony LaMonica (5-0, 4 KO's), heavyweight Abraham "The African Assasin" Okine (14-3, 8 KO's), a former Ghana National Team member, unbeaten Revere (MA) lightweight prospect Juan Lopez (1-0), and full-time United States Coastguard member - heavyweight - Phillip "Killa" Miller (3-0, 2 KO's) all of whom will be making their debut appearance under the Cappiello Promotions banner, on the "Ethnic Invasion" fight card. "I'm extremely excited to be bringing boxing back to The Roxy," stated Rich Cappiello. "Ethnic Invasion is going to give fight fans a chance to see some tremendous fighters of all different ethnic backgrounds. We are going to be showcasing an Irishman, Italian, Ghanaian, Puerto Rican, Vietnamese-American, and two African-American's, all of whom can be seen in one of the best venues in the country in which to take in a night of boxing." Also in attendance at today's presser, were former junior welterweight and welterweight champions "Irish" Micky Ward, and Tony DeMarco. The two ring legends, who in different eras gave boxing fans some of the greatest fights of all time, took time out of their schedules to show their support for Cappiello Promotions, and the consistent fight cards that the promotional organization has been bringing to the Boston area. Both legends posed for pictures, signed autographs, and gave Cappiello's newest fighter (Orr) an immediate thrill! "This is the first time I've met Micky Ward," exclaimed a wide-eyed Orr. "I didn't know Micky would be here, it's really quite something, a privilege to have finally met him!" Orr, amassed a 137-11-3 record as a 151-pounder, while fighting out of his hometown of Victoria Island, British Columbia, Canada, to include an Olympic qualifying win over Jerson Ravelo. Although Orr is Canadian, his Irish ancestry, and Irish brogue, will make him a very popular resident in the predominantly Irish-American neighborhood of South Boston, where he has relocated to just this past week. "I'm thrilled to be fighting for Cappiello Promotions, and I just hope I can live up to all the expectations everyone here has for me. I plan on putting on some great fights, and continuing to develop some great relationships here in Boston." Cappiello not only sees Orr as a great young talent, but also as a boxing promoter's dream. "The sky is the limit for Donnie here. He is very articulate, he is an Irish boxer living and fighting out of Boston, where he will develop a tremendous following, and he can flat out fight! We're looking forward to a great future with Donald Orr." Tickets to "Ethnic Invasion," priced at $40 (General Admission), and $75 (Ringside) are available by calling 508-586-CAPP (2277).
