Samuels smokes Logan!

Junior welterweight Derrick Samuels (15-3-1) stopped Donnell Logan (10-16) in the first round on Friday night at the A la Carte Pavillion in Tampa, Florida. Samuels hurt Logan with a body shot and Logan was not able to recover.

In the co-feature, jr middleweight Keith Thurman moved to 5-0 with five first round knockouts by destroying Jessie Davis 9-10 in 2:45 seconds of the first stanza. After taking massive punishment in the early part of the round, Davis was hit with a left hook to the body and a huge right hand that knocked him to the canvas. Davis was not able to make it up by the ten count.

In a barn burner, featherweight Carlos Rivera improved his record to 13-3 by beating tough Carlos Vinan 7-6 by six round unanimous decision. Rivera had Vinan on the run toward the end but the bloodyVinan would not go away quietly. Judges scored the bout 58-56 twice and 59-55.

In a huge upset, amateur boxing standout Jesus Mendez (2-1), who recently signed an exclusive promotional agreement with Starfight Productions,
lost a split decision to North Carolina native Jason Rorie 2-0. Mendez was dropped in the first round. The judges scored the bout 38-37, 38-37 Rorie and 37-38 Mendez.

Undefeated heavyweight Nick Ianuzzi (6-0) made easy work of Willy Chisolm 6-4-0 by stopping him in the third round. After Chisolm was rocked and was taking too much punishment, the referee stopped the bout.

Debuting female fighter Adewirki Lopez 1-0 of Tampa Florida defeated local fan favorite Jenna Shiver 6-3-1 of St. Petersburg Florida in an action packed bout. Adewirki dominated early in the fight and looked as if she was going to have an easy night, but Shiver came storming back late in the third and stunned Lopez in the fourth. The judges had the fight scored 39-37 on all score cards

Middleweight Ahsandi Gibbs (6-0) won a unanimous decision over game Tim Hall of Athens Georgia. Judges scored the fight 40-36 on all cards.
