In Japan, a failure to make weight is a crime to be severely criticized and punished logically and morally. Therefore, our boxers endeavor to make weight to have this sports fair and square. So, Luis Nery had been suspended indefinitely by the JBC though lately revoked to materialize his WBC mandatory shot at “Monster” Naoya Inoue as ordered by the WBC. Under our strict circumstances undefeated highly expected prospect WBC#8, WBA#10 featherweight Hayato Tsutsumi shamefully failed to make weight by no less than three and a half pounds against ex-WBA bantam ruler Anselmo Moreno in a 126-pound contracted bout in Tokyo, Japan.

Tsutsumi (5-0, 2 KOs), 129.5, displayed his superior physical power and finished currently WBA#9 Panamanian Moreno (43-7-1, 15 KOs), 125.25, at 2:45 of the third round in a scheduled ten on Wednesday. WBC super lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and super lightweight contender Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) hosted a media workout at the historic Gleason’s Gym in Brooklyn to promote their PPV clash on Saturday night.

Devin Haney: “I mean none of Ryan’s antics has really gotten under my skin. I’m a true professional. When I get into that ring, I am going to do my job. No matter how I feel, no matter what Ryan shows up, or whatever he says. He can say whatever he wants to say. I am going to let my hands talk in the ring on Saturday night…I just want to show how I am levels above this guy.”

Ryan Garcia: “It’s right in front of your face! How am I going to miss weight?! I am just a motherf***er on a mission. I am still here, I am strong, and I am ready to destroy him. If Devin doesn’t land face first, then I did something wrong…the social media is all just noise! I post something and then people think I’m crazy. Former undisputed lightweight champion and current WBC super lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is more than an 8:1 favorite for his upcoming PPV title defense against “King” Ryan Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) on Saturday in Brooklyn.

Haney opened as a -550 favorite, but has been bet up to a -850 favorite in the final days before the fight.

More than three years since his last ring appearance, former super welterweight world title challenger Brandon Adams (23-3, 15 KOs) returns to the ring in a ten-rounder against Ismael Villarreal (13-2, 9 KOs KOs) on Friday night on DAZN from the Overtime Elite Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Adams was last seen stopping current WBC interim 154lb world champion Serhii Bohachuk in eight rounds back in March 2021.

Adams-Villarreal is part of a 154lb tournament that also features Francisco Veron 13-0-1, 10 KOs) against Angel Ruiz (18-2-1, 13 KOs) in the other bracket.

The fighters are fighing in a compact 18×18 ft ring.

Unbeaten junior middleweight Xander Zayas (18-0, 12 KOs) is poised to kick off Puerto Rican Day Parade weekend by facing former world champion Patrick Teixeira (34-4, 25 KOs) in a 10-round clash on ESPN Saturday, June 8 at The Theater at Madison Square Garden. Zayas-Teixeira marks 19 years since Top Rank initiated its parade weekend tradition with Miguel Cotto against Muhammad Abdullaev.

In the 10-round featherweight co-feature, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (11-0, 7 KOs) aims to extend his knockout streak against Jose Enrique Vivas (23-3, 12 KOs).

In the co-feature, IBO super middleweight titleholder Osleys Iglesias (10-0, 9 KOs) will defend his belt against Evgeny Shvedenko (16-1-1, 7 KOs) in a scheduled 12-rounder. Also scheduled are Arthur Biyarslanov (14-0, 12 KOs), Leïla Beaudoin (11-1, 1 KO), Luis Santana (11-0, 5 KOs), and Jhon Orobio (7-0, 7 KOs) in separate bouts.

I am in London, England, to participate in a press conference, with an impressive series of news for the world of boxing.

While here, the news of drone attacks emerged and the global alert that this issued, the closure of air spaces, and the great speculation and nervousness that this inevitably generates for the world.

The only thing we can do is pray to God for peace globally. It is tragically ironic that in the middle of 2024 we are experiencing war conflicts. Have we learned nothing? I avoid mentioning the countries, it is not necessary.

Where have the lessons from the terrible events of the past gone? Why is it that the ego and thirst for power of a few is forcing the entire world live in constant trepidation?

If only everything in life was like boxing, it would be something else. Getting into the ring with rules and a referee present, to give everything and in the end, whoever wins, the victory is recognized. Unbeaten southpaw prospect WBA#14 Yuga Ozaki (6-0-1, 5 KOs), 107.75, looked so impressive as he lopsidedly battered Thailand’s Kittidech Hirunsuk (12-7, 7 KOs), 107.5, from all angles and finally halted him with the referee’s intervention at 2:51 of the seventh round in a scheduled ten on Sunday in Osaka, Japan. Yuga scored his first defense of his WBC youth belt. The vastly talented speedster Ozaki previously made a quick demolition of WBA rated light fly Sitthisak Simsri (then 17-1, 17 KOs) in round two to enter the WBA world ratings last September. WBO/WBC/IBF unified champion Artur Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) and WBA ruler Dmitry Bivol (22-0, 11 KOs) met face-to-face at today’s kickoff presser in London ahead of their undisputed light heavyweight showdown on Saturday, June 1 at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This battle of 175-pound titans will stream live and exclusively on ESPN+ in the U.S. as a special one-fight broadcast. The “5 vs. 5” undercard will likely be PPV.

Artur Beterbiev: I just see another belt. I’m collecting belts, and I need one more. I don’t know why {it’s taken so long to make this fight}. He knows better. Ask him. We’ll see {if this is the biggest challenge}. I’m not thinking about it. I’m preparing for it. I will prepare and try to be at 100 percent.”

Dmitry Bivol: “When I signed a contract to be a pro boxer, I had a goal to become undisputed. Everything that I have gone through has been for that. I did it to achieve my goal. Even the fight against Canelo. It was my ticket for big fights. And now I’m happy that I will have this fight on June 1 for all the belts…I believe I can be undisputed.”

The undercard for the June 1 Beterbiev-Bivol clash in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was announced at a press conference in London on Monday. The fights will feature five matches between boxers promoted by Matchroom (M) and boxers promoted by Queensberry (Q).

Beterbiev and Bivol didn’t have much to say, but looked dead serious in their faceoff.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman unveiled the special WBC belt that will be presented to the May 18 winner of the undisputed heavyweight title showdown between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk.

The main event for the May 10 Seneca Fight Night (SFN) was announced Monday morning as undefeated New York native Arnold “AG” Gonzalez (14-0, 6 KOs) of New York City will meet Esneiker “La Maravilla” Correa (15-4-1, 13 KOs) of Los Teques, Venezuela for the vacant WBA FEDECENTRO welterweight title. The ten-rounder will be held at Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino Events Center and televised live on ESPN Knockout.

In the co-main event, the Queen of Niagara Falls, Mikiah Kreps (7-0, 3 KOs), faces interstate rival Melissa Odessa Parker (6-2, 2 KOs) of Brooklyn in an eight round showdown.

Sunny Edwards and Adrian Curiel will clash in a 12-round flyweight battle as the chief support bout for the world title clash between Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada and Jesse “BAM” Rodriguez at Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on June 29, live worldwide on DAZN.

Both men will be looking to bounce back to winning ways and get back to world champion status, and for Edwards (20-1 4 KOs), it’s an immediate return to the state where he met headline star Rodriguez in a 112lb unification clash in December. Curiel (24-5-1 5 KOs) moves up in weight after two dramatic 108lb world title clashes with Sivenathi Nontshinga.

Sunny Edwards: “Me vs Curiel is a hell of a fight. He is a former World Champion, like myself, and we’re both fighting to get back into world title contention…I’m looking forward to being back.”

Adrian Curiel: “When you lose, you learn, and I will prove it against Edwards on June 29…if they want to make it 112lbs we will take it even though this is not my weight, all because I am thirsty for revenge. Viva Mexico!!”

Sad to report the passing of Scottish boxer Willie Limond at the age of 45. Limond succumbed in a Glasgow hospital several days after suffering an apparent seizure in his car. He was scheduled to fight at Emirates Arena on May 3.

Limond had a record of 42-5 with 13 KOs, winning European, Commonwealth and British championships and facing names like Erik Morales, Amir Khan, Anthony Crolla, and Ricky Burns.

In a brilliant exhibition of boxing South Africa’s Ricardo Malajika (13-2, 9 KOs) completely outboxed and outthought Marcel Braithwaite (16-4-1, 1 KO) from England to retain the IBO junior bantamweight title for the first time, at Emperors Palace near Kemp Park on Saturday night.

Unbeaten WBO #4, WBC #5 heavyweight Jared “The Real Big Baby” Anderson (17-0, 15 KOs) scored an easy ten round unanimous decision over former cruiserweight champion-turned-heavyweight Ryad Merhy (32-3, 26 KOs) on Saturday night at the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Pretty much one-way traffic for Anderson as Merhy rarely engaged. Scores were 100-90, 100-90, 99-91. No memorable moments. Spectators booed most the way.

In a crossroads battle between 2016 Olympians, Efe “The Silent Roller” Ajagba (20-1, 14 KOs) won a ten round split decision over Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (12-2-1, 10 KOs). Vianello rocked Ajagba in round two, in fact, Efe walked back to the wrong corner. But Ajagba took over after Vianello slowed down in the middle rounds. Vianello closed strong, but it was too little too late. Scores were 96-94 Vianello, 96-94, 96-94 Ajagba.

2016 Olympic gold medalist and three-time world title challenger Robson Conceição (18-2-1, 9 KOs) scored a seventh round KO over Jose Guardado (15-2-1, 5 KOs) in a junior lightweight bout. Conceição dropped Guardado twice with bodyshots in the seventh. Time was 2:27.

Another impressive performance for unbeaten blue chip lightweight Abdullah Mason (13-0, 11 KOs), who got a fourth round referee’s stoppage against Ronal Ron (14-6, 11 KOs). Mason dropped Ron in rounds one and three, then finished him with a barrage of punches in the fourth. Time was 1:02.

Junior lightweight Alejandro “Pork Chop” Guerrero (13-4, 10 KOs) upset previously unbeaten Jalen Walker (12-1-1, 10 KOs) with a barrage of punches in round seven. Walker was also down earlier in the fight. Walker’s corner threw in the towel at 1:35.

In his pro debut, Team USA heavyweight Ali Feliz dropped and stopped Anthony Woodson III (1-2, 1 KO) in round two. Time 1:16.

Super featherweight Zelfa Barrett (31-2, 17 KOs) stopped Jordan Gill (28-3-1, 9 KOs) in the tenth round on Saturday night at AO Arena in Manchester, England. Barrett broke open a close fight when he dropped Gill twice with body shots in round ten and eventually got a referee’s stoppage at 2:44. The bout was for the WBA International title.

In a clash for the vacant WBO female lightweight title, Rhiannon Dixon (10-0, 1 KO) outpointed Karen “Burbuja” Carabajal (22-2, 3 KOs) over ten rounds. Dixon dropped Carbajal in round three en route to a 98-91, 97-92, 96-93 win.

In an IBF/WBO female super bantamweight unification fight that figured to go the distance, Ellie Scotney (9-0, 0 KOs) outpointed Segolene Lefebvre (18-1, 1 KO) over ten rounds by scores of 99-91, 97-93, 96-94.

WBO#5 Thanongsak Simsri (33-1, 30 KOs), 107.25, surprisingly captured the OPBF light flyweight belt from Filipino defending champ WBC#12 Miel Fajardo (11-2-1, 10 KOs), 107, when he pounded out a unanimous decision (117-110, 116-111, 115-112) over twelve hard-fought rounds on Saturday in Osaka, Japan. Thanongsak, under the promotional contract of Japan’s Green Tsuda Promotions, was a prefight underdog since Fajardo was highly regarded with his OPBF vacant title acquisition on an eye-catching first round demolition of compatriot John Paul Gubinales last August. From the start Fajardo, 24, attempted to stalk the upright Thailander, 23, with roundhouse punches, but Thanongsak smartly kept his distance and cooly kept jabbing the onrushing champ all the way. Ater the eighth, the open scoring system indicated the challenger widely leading on points—80-72 twice, 78-74. The hard-punching Fajardo, however, desperately tried to turn the tables, decking the Thailander with a looping left hook in round ten. Having a narrow escape, Thanongsak kept on outboxing the champ and wrested the regional belt beyond expectations.

Japanese version of Fundora, 5’11” super bantam Toshiki Shimomachi (18-1-3, 12 KOs), 121.75, impressively kept his national 122-pound belt when he dropped JBC#1 Tulio Dekanarudo (7-2-2, 4 KOs), 122, three times and scored a fine TKO victory at 1:07 of the fifth round in a scheduled ten on Saturday in Osaka, Japan. Making his second defense, the very tall southpaw champ utilized his advantageous height and reach, outpunching the muscular challenger with good jabs and swift footwork. The fifth witnessed WBC#14 Shimomachi, 27, explode a southpaw right uppercut and badly floor the onrushing rival to the deck. The champ quickly follow it up and scored two more knockdowns to have the ref declare a halt. His target may be the undisputed world champ Naoya Inoue, but he politely said, “I must improve much more to cope with the Monster.” He probably had better wait for Naoya to move up to the featherweight in the future.

In a clash of unbeaten heavyweights for the vacant European title, Oleksandr Zakhozhyi (19-0, 15 KOs) of Ukraine demolished German favorite Granit Shala (15-1, 5 KOs) in the second round on Saturday night at the AGON Sportpark in Berlin, Germany. Zakhozhyi dropped Shala in round two, then blasted him to the canvas again to end it. Time was 2:25.

Former WBC flyweight champion Charlie Edwards (19-1, 7 KOs) claimed the vacant WBC International silver bantamweight title with a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over Georges Ory (17-4-1, 2 KOs) on Friday night at the famed York Hall in London. Edwards stuck and moved all night against the ever-advancing Ory. Scores were 98-92 3x. Brother Sunny Edwards, the former IBF fly champion, was working in Charlie’s corner.
