Rest in Peace Troy Waters

Funeral service for former Commonwealth Champion and three-time world light middleweight challenger Troy Waters, who passed on May 18 after a long illness, was held on Wednesday at Greenway Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 460 Avoca Drive, Greenpoint, NSW, Australia. There were over one thousand mourners in attendance, among them former two-time WBC light heavyweight champion Jeff “Hitman” Harding who said, “Troy worked with me as a sparring partner when I defended the WBC title in France against David Vedder. Troy also won his fight by knockout on the undercard. He got me in great shape for my fight. Troy was a champion in and outside the ring. God Bless Troy.”

Former world heavyweight challenger Kali Meehan and former Commonwealth light middleweight champion Ken Salisbury were also in attendance, along with former Australian heavyweight champion Bob Mirovic and nationally rated contenders Paul Nasari, Kevin Hogan, Roy Alexander, Troy Speed, Dino Billinghurst, Mathew Reid, boxing officials David Grainger, Ian Batty, Charlie Lucas and former Redondo Beach, California-based trainer Charlie Gergan who trained Troy for his bout with Robert Wangila.

Pastor Steve Knee conducted the service.

Tributes by Dean, Guy and Tracy Waters and letters by Troy’s wife, Michelle and Troy’s children Nate and Shontae were read by Donna Knee.

Tributes by Troy’s close friends Wal, Chop, Chooky and Herbie.
