Former WBC youth bantam champion Pungluang Sor Singyu (25-1, 15 KOs) impressively grabbed the vacant WBO Asia-Pacific youth 118 lb title as he annihilated Filipino Jilo Merlin in the opening round on Saturday at Municipality of Kaomaikaew in Banbung, Chonburi, Thailand. The Thai fighter surprisingly attacked his opponent and rapidly destroyed the Filipino with a tough left hook following by a right shot, scoring a KO for a full-ten count at 1:32 of the opening round. Pungluang who lost his WBC youth belt to Stephane Jamoye in a controversial decision on May 9, is now targeting for the WBO title shot. With his impressive victory, his supporters expect that the Thai prospect will be ranked in the WBO top-15 very soon.
