The two-time national amateur champion from Worcester, Massachusetts, Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriquez brought a piece of history back to his hometown as for the first time since 1967 professional boxing returned to Mechanics Hall. Rodriguez (10-0, 7 KOs) was successful in his first professional fight in his hometown and in front of a packed audience. He was relentless and went right after Thompson (15-14-1, 5 KOs) early and often as he threw bombs at his adversary. The “Homecoming” celebration for Rodriguez was complete when he stopped veteran Patrick Thompson in the second round at 2:11 after Thompson’s corner threw in the towel.
