“The Defense” in San Diego!

By Felipe Leon

Boxing returns to San Diego, California this Thursday as Bobby D. Presents in association with Jorge Marron Productions promote a well-matched card titled “The Defense” at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel. In the scheduled eight round super bantamweight bout, Chula Vista’s own Christopher Martin (15-0-2, 3 KOs) takes on the tough Eduardo “Lalo” Arcos (15-0, 12 KOs) of Tijuana, MX. The slick boxing Martin is coming off a rare KO of the durable Torrence Daniels last May in Sacramento while the brawling Arcos is on a six fight win streak with four of them coming in within the distance.

In the semi main event, hard hitting lightweight Andrew Cancio (9-1-1, 9 KOs) of nearby Blythe, takes on the experienced Cristian Favela (17-22-6, 10 KOs) of Los Angeles by way of Los Mochis, MX in an eight rounder. The 45-fight veteran Favela has faced an array of past and current champions as well as up and coming fighters such as Luis Ramos, Mercito Gesta and Danny Garcia not to mention Juan Carlos Salgado, Roman Martinez and Steven Luevano. In Cancio’s last bout, he stopped the experienced Michaelangelo Lynks in five rounds.

In another super bantamweight battle, veterans Jose Luis Araiza (27-1, 19 KOs) and Jose Beltran (19-14-3, 11 KOs) will face off for six rounds while the night also marks the return of unbeaten local favorite Amaris Quintana (2-0-1) in a light flyweight attraction.

Amateur standout Antonio Orozco (4-0, 3 KOs) will take on Mario Angeles (1-2-1) in a four round jr welterweight fight.

Doors open at 6pm with the first punch thrown at 7:30pm. For tickets and information call 619.420.8866 or 619.743.0698. Tickets are also available at the Hotel Gift Store or by calling 858.277.8888.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
