Currently ranked number one in the world at super featherweight by the WBC, 28-year-old Sergio “Yeyo” Thompson (25-2, 23 KOs) scored a fifth round KO over Luis Armando Juarez (16-6-2, 4 KOs) on Saturday night at the Convention Center in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. With the win, Thompson is closing in on his well-deserved shot at newly crowned WBC super featherweight world champion Gamaliel “Platano” Diaz.
In the co-main event, unbeaten Roberto “Massa” Ortiz (27-0-1, 22 KOs) won his first defense of his WBC silver super lightweight title by twelve round unanimous decision against Jhean Carlo Aparicio (23-5, 17 KOs). Scores were 120-107, 120-108 and 119-108.
Also, unbeaten jr featherweight Tomoki “Mexicanito” Kameda (25-0, 16 KOs) won by fifth round TKO over Javier “Chivero” Franco (21-10-1, 17 KOs).
