The 29th IBF convention was officially brought to a close this morning in Honolulu, HI with a closing session of talks. For the most part, the agenda of the week was conducted efficiently and in a timely manner, leaving little unfinished business.
WBC Convention chairman and Hawaiian local Chuck Williams took a moment to congratulate the IBF and President Peoples on the quality of the convention, especially in regards to the cocktail and banquet gatherings.
Future sites were proposed such as Berlin, Bangkok, Montreal, Rome, the continent of Africa among others. These locales are being considered for 2014 and onward. The location for next year’s 2013 convention had been focused on Montreal. After strong arguments by promoters and others to move away from the North American continent after three straight years there, Europe moved to the forefront, with Berlin the leading candidate. A show of hands was taken to consider a three year plan for the convention locations. While not cast in stone, the consensus looks to be for the moment- Berlin for 2013, Bangkok for 2014 and somewhere on the African continent for 2015.
Changing the traditional time frame of the annual convention, traditionally starting on the American Memorial Day weekend (last weekend of May), was also brought up for discussion. Still keeping in the basic time of the year, the week preceding or following will be considered for future conventions.
Aloha and Mahalo Honolulu!
