It didn’t take long for 50 Cent to jump head first into boxing promotions.
After severing the promotional company he founded with undefeated pugilist Floyd “Money” Mayweather, 50 hit the ground running with SMS Promotions. This Saturday, the undefeated Yuriorkis Gamboa, his fighter, will take center stage in the co-main event of the highly anticipated fourth meeting between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez.
At the event’s final press conference, 50 vowed that Gamboa’s entrance would be one to remember and make some big promises about the future of boxing.
“I think I can offer what needs to happen to add new attention to the sport and bring youth culture back to the sport,” he told the press today. “The demographic [for boxing] I believe is 30 and up. The UFC, 56 percent of their demographic is aged 15-34.”
To capture the youth, 50 offered up more of a merger between music and also threw a nod to the leader in sports entertainment.
“To reignite that excitement, I think we can merge music culture and bring some of the showmanship you see in WWE,” he continued. “The actual theatrics with cards that are more exciting than just the main event where the arena is empty until 36-minutes before the show is over.”
