A Day at the Wildcard Gym

Photos: Chris Farina/Top Rank

A lot of talent on display at Freddie Roach’s famed Wildcard Gym in Hollywood, California on Friday as two-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time world amateur champion Zou Shiming, WBA/WBO flyweight champion Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Viloria, top-rated contender Ruslan Provodnikov and undefeated welterweight Wale “Lucky Boy” Omotoso were all working hard to prepare for important upcoming fights.

Shiming is prepping for his professional Top Rank boxing debut on April 6 at The Venetian Macao Resort Hotel in Macau.

Viloria is getting ready for his upcoming title defense against Juan Francisco Estrada on the same card as Shiming.

Provodnikov is gearing up for next Saturday’s world championship clash against undefeated WBO champion Timothy “The Desert Storm” Bradley Jr.

Omotoso is wiring in for his high voltage showdown with fellow unbeaten Jessie Vargas on the undercard of Bradley-Provodnikov.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
