Abis wins EU belt

Italian Luciano Abis (29-1-1, 13 KOs) won the vacant European Union welterweight title against Belgian Kobe Vandekerkove (18-8-2, 6 KOs) on Saturday in Quartu S. Elena in the beautiful island of Sardegna, Italy. Abis won by technical decision in round eight after the referee stopped the contest because Abis was not able to see from his swollen left eye (head butt from Vandekerkove in round two).

For McField, it was the first loss inside the limit. Super lightweight Michele Di Rocco (28-1-1, 12 KOs) decisioned in six rounds Irish toughguy Peter McDonagh (15-17, 2 KOs).

OPI 2000 (Salvatore and Christian Cherchi) promoted the show with Dahlia TV televising the card live in Italy.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
