In an important clash between heavyweight contenders, former light heavyweight and cruiserweight world champion Tomasz Adamek (46‐2, 29 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over “Fast” Eddie Chambers (36-3, 18 KOs) on Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. It was a tactical fight with Adamek clearly busier and Chambers quicker and more accurate. In the end, judges scored it 116-112, 116-112, 119-109. Chambers appeared to suffer an injury to his left arm early in the fight.
Unbeaten heavyweight Bryant “By-By” Jennings (14-0, 6 KOs) scored a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over Steve “Freight Train” Collins (25-2-1, 18 KOs) to claim the vacant USBA heavyweight title. Jennings scored a knockdown in round four when the ropes held up Collins and outworked Collins throughout the fight. Scores were 100-89 on all cards.
Middleweight Jamaal Davis (14-8-1, 6 KOs) outpointed journeyman Doel Carrasquillo (16-20-1, 14 KOs) over eight by scores of 79-73, 78-74, 78-74.
Undefeated middleweight prospect John “The Apollo Kid” Thompson (8-0, 2 KOs) used his superior reach advantage and ring generalship to easily box his way to a one sided unanimous decision victory over John “No Mercy” Mackey (6-6-1, 2 KOs) by scores of 59-55 and 56-56 x 2.
Tureano Johnson (9-0, 6 KOs) had his hands full with a game Roberto Young (5-5-1, 4 KOs), but his constant pressure allowed him to squeak out a unanimous decision by scores of 58-56 across the board.
In a 6 round welterweight bout Jose “Mangu” Peralta (9-1, 5 KOs) took on Dontre King (6-11-2, 2 KOs). Peralta showcased better skills and was able to knock down King twice in the fight; once in round 3 and finished it with a TKO victory at 2:28 of round 4.
Local favorite Patrick “Paddy Boy” Farrell (7-1-1, 3 KOs) takes on David “The Amateur” Williams (6-6-1, 2 KOs) in a 4 round Heavyweight bout. In a hard fought fight that went the distance Farrell won the decision with one judge scoring the fight 39-36 and 2 judges scoring the fight 40-35. Farrell scored the only knock down in the fight in round 2.
