Agnew squeaks past Page

By Byron Spurlock at ringside

Unbeaten WBC Continental/WBC US NBC light heavyweight titleholder Cedric Agnew (24-0, 13 KOs) had to work hard to claim a six round majority decision over veteran Zack Page (21-39-2, 7 KOs) on Thursday night in front of a near full house at the Houston Club in downtown Houston, Texas.

Despite Agnew being the heavy favorite and undefeated beltholder, it was the game Page who continued to bring the action each round. At times Agnew’s corner pleaded with their fighter to let his hands go. Agnew responded with glimpses of what made him undefeated by ripping left and right hooks to the body that had Page backing up and retreating. However, Page wasn’t going to let a few shots to the rib cage make him go down and he began pelting Agnew with combinations to the head from all angles. Agnew finally began to hurt Page late but the match was left up to the judges. Agnew kept his undefeated record intact by scores of 58-56, 59-55, 57-57.
