An estimated 6,000 fans filled the Pit in Albuquerque Sunday night to say goodbye to their hometown champion Johnny Tapia. After lining up to pay their respects to the fallen champ, a two-hour memorial service was conducted.
Honoring the man and fighter, songs, videos were shown and speeches were given. Speakers included Bruce Trampler and Miguel Diaz, both of Top Rank, former Tapia foe Paulie Ayala and promoter Tony Holden. Music was performed by Al Hurricane and Al Hurricane Jr. while the ceremony was emceed by Jimmy Lennon Jr.
