The WBO cruiserweight eliminator between Universum boxer Alexander Alekseev (19-1, 17 KOs) and his still undefeated Russian compatriot Denis Lebedev (20-0, 15 KOs) has been added to the big July 17th Unversum Champions Night in Schwerin, Germany. The winner will be the mandatory challenger of WBO champion Marco Huck. “Marco Huck is my dream opponent,” said Alekseev. “Now I’m just one step away from him. I must and will take take first hurdle Lebedev.”
Alekseev, who has lived and trained in Hamburg for three years and speaks perfect German, suffered his only defeat in an interim world championship fight against Victor Ramirez in January 2009. Formerly trained by Fritz Sdunek, Alekseev is now trained by Magomed Schaburow. “Marco Huck also lost against Cunningham,” points out Alekseev. “It’s essential that lessons be drawn from defeats. That brought me forward. I’ll prove it.”
Headlining the show at the Sport- und Kongresshalle is WBC interim middleweight champion Sebastian Zbik (29-0, 10 KOs) defending against Khoren Gevor (31-4, 16 KOs).
