Allakhverdiev-Prescott March 30th

Newly crowned WBA light welterweight champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8 KOs) of Russia will make the first defense of his title March 30th. Allakhverdiev who recently signed with Top Rank will defend against hardpunching Breidis Presscott of Colombia. Allakhverdiev won his world title in impressive fashion by dropping in route to decisoning former unbeaten multi-divisonal world champion Joan Guzman this past November on a show where Guzman´s promoter was the lead promoter which makes the victory that more impressive by Allakhverdiev. Prescott is best known for handing former world champion Amir Khan his first career defeat years back by first round knockout. A little over a year ago Prescott was in an epic thriller where he had then unbeaten Mike Alvarado down on all three official scorecards going into the 10th and final round but ended up getting stopped by Alvarado before the final bell. Ironically the Allakhverdiev-Prescott fight will be the televised co-feature to the Mike Alvardo-Brandon Rios II rematch on HBO.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
