After some entertaining pre-fight trash tweets, both “Mile High” Mike Alvarado and Ruslan Provodnikov were polite and respectful at today’s news conference in Denver to announce their October 19 WBO jr welterweight title clash at 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado.
Ruslan Provodnikov: I can confidently say that we’re both going to create a war and I’m pretty sure one of us is going to remain laying in the ring after the fight.
Mike Alvarado: It’s going to be a great show. It’s going to be a dream come true fighting in my hometown. (Alvarado also presented Provodnickov with a Denver Broncos jersey.)
This match will be the area’s first world championship fight featuring a local fighter since September 15, 2000 when former World Boxing Council (WBC) lightweight champion Stevie Johnston unsuccessfully challenged defending WBC lightweight champion Jose Luis Castillo, via majority draw, at Pepsi Center. Alvarado vs. Provodnikov will be televised live on HBO.
