Amateur star Gary Salazar signs with Top Rank

Will fight on eve of Pacquiao-Bradley on ESPN Friday Night Fights at Mandalay Bay

Gary Salazar, America’s top-rated amateur bantamweight from Fresno, has signed a promotional contract with Top Rank. Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum made the announcement today. “We are very excited about Gary signing with Top Rank,” Arum said. Salazar was tabbed by many as the bantamweight who would represent Team USA in the Rio 2016 Olympics. He decided to turn professional, is 2-0 with two first round KOs and will make his official Top Rank debut in a four round bout on Top Rank’s ESPN Friday Night boxing card at Mandalay Bay on Friday night.

“Gary is one of the brightest prospects in California and a big ticket seller in his hometown of Fresno,” said Hall of Fame matchmaker Bruce Trampler of Top Rank.

Salazar was 150-19 as an amateur and a 12-time National champion who won gold medals at the 2012 National PAL and the 2011 Junior Olympics. He is managed by Saul Lomas and his advisor is Rick Mirigian.

“It’s been my dream since I put the gloves on to be signed by Top Rank. I’m blessed for this opportunity,” Salazar said. “I had other offers but knew Top Rank was the right company to help guide me to a world title.”

Lomas added “Gary has a lot of power at his weight class. He can change it up no matter who is facing in the ring. We’re going to shock the world.”

“My goal is to make the Central Valley a hotbed for boxing in the years to come,” Mirigian said. “The sky is the limit with Gary’s potential. Top Rank will prepare him for greatness.”

Salazar has joined the California Latino Water Coalition in his hometown to help make a difference.

“We are please Gary has joined the Coalition. His efforts bring awareness to the need for water and the pumps to be turned up in the Central Valley,” said Mario Santoyo, executive director. “Gary is an amazing young fighter and a great young man.”
