Amir Khan Picks Floyd Mayweather To Defeat Robert Guerrero Tonight – But Says He Has Game-Plan To Upset “Money”
By James Slater
British star, former WBA/IBF 140-pound ruler Amir Khan will be one of the many interested ringside observers at tonight’s rapidly approaching Mayweather-Guerrero fight in Las Vegas, and though “King” Khan is picking “Money May” to win at The MGM Grand, Khan says that he and his team have the perfect game-plan to topple the pound-for-pound king.
Khan has long since craved a chance at facing the 43-0 master, and recent talk from Leonard Ellerbe, in which Floyd’s right hand man spoke of the plans for Mayweather to fight in the UK, has only wetted his appetite for what would be the biggest fight in England in many a year. And, in speaking with The Sun, Khan recalled a time when Roger Mayweather told him in person that he has a fighting style that would cause his nephew problems.
“I don’t know if he’d admit it but his trainer Roger said, ‘you have a style to cause Floyd a lot of problems,” Khan told the tabloid. “With my speed and movement they’ll have been watching me for a long time. When I first went to their gym I’d never fought in America yet they knew exactly who Amir Khan was, even Mayweather came to the gym to see me train.”
Khan claims that Floyd Mayweather Senior offered his services as a trainer, “but it didn’t happen.”
Now, with his new trainer Virgil Hunter, Khan feels he has the beating of Mayweather if only he can land the super-fight.
“I have a great team around me and we have a game-plan for defeating Mayweather,” the 26-year-old said.
In the meantime, a number of good judges feel Guerrero just might catch up with Mayweather and cause the upset. Khan is not amongst these experts though.
“Guerrero’s a tough guy but skill-wise he’s not in the same league as Mayweather,” Khan proclaimed.
