San Diego’s Jorge Marron Productions in association with northern California’s Paco Presents and Mexico’s A&T Gym have joined forces to bring a live boxing event on Friday, June 21st, to the established Four Points Hotel by Sheraton in Kearny Mesa, a suburb of “America’s Finest City”, San Diego. In the six round super flyweight main event, first time in America, the hard hitting African John Amuzu (13-0, 13KOs) of Ghana will face his stiffest test to date when he goes against the much more experienced and durable Juanito Rubillar (49-19-7, 24KOs) of the Philippines.
As mentioned, the bout will be the first time Amuzu has plied his wares in the United States or any other country for that matter since his first thirteen fights have all been in Ghana against questionable opposition. In Rubillar he will find a tough customer with close to sixty more fights than him. Rubillar is coming off a respectable win at the same venue over Dominican Basilio Nieves via fifth round TKO and in a career that has spanned over nineteen years has faced former world champions Pongsaklek Wonjongkam, Jorge “Travieso” Arce, Edgar Sosa and Giovani Segura. At one time Rubillar held the OPBF light flyweight title and defended it a number of times.
The match up has all the makings of a classic young warrior looking to overtake the old lion.
Local super flyweight Aracely Tinoco (1-0) will have her hands full when she takes on Blanca Raymundo (1-8) in a four rounder while Jorge Porras (0-2) will look for his first win against first timer Adrian Rodriguez in a super bantamweight four. Also programmed for the card is local favorite Antonio Arellano (6-1-1, 2KOs) coming off his first professional loss a couple of months ago.
Five more fights fill out the night.
The Four Points Hotel by Sheraton is located at 8110 Aero Drive in San Diego. For tickets or info, please dial 619.258.0698. Doors open at 6:30pm with the first fight at 7:30pm.
