And then there were none; Warren, Spence lose

USA Olympian flyweight Rau’shee Warren and USA welterweight Errol Spence both went down to defeat Friday, eliminating all nine American boxers from Olympic competition without a medal. Warren, a three-time Olympian, again crashed out of the Olympics in his first fight, losing 19-18 to France’s Nordine Oubaali. Spence was trailing India’s Krishan Vikas after every round, ultimately going down to a 13-11 defeat.

This is the first time ever that the United States has been shut out in any Olympic boxing competition it has entered. Quite an embarrassment for the nation that won five boxing gold medals in 1976 and nine in 1984.
