Angulo-Ortiz for IBA belt

By Felipe Leon

On Saturday night, an interesting clash of light weltweights will take place when Fernando “La Fiera” Angulo (23-7, 15KO) of Caracas, Venezuela, travels to the hometown of Silverio “Chamaco” Ortiz (20-13, 9KO) of Merida, Yucatan, for the vacant IBA lightweight welterweight title over twelve rounds. In the semi main event, David Lopez (38-12, 23KO) of Nogales, MX, goes against Cesar Alberto Leiva (40-11, 20KO) of Mar de Plata, Argentina, for the also vacant IBA middlweight strap. The fight card will take place at the Poliforum Zamna of Merida, Yucatan. “We have two exciting bouts for titles and I sure it will be a great night of boxing,” Jorge Marron, the attending IBA supervisor, stated. “Soon we will have two new champions that I am sure will reprensent the association with honor.”

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
