Another fight falls through for WBA #2 heavyweight Ortiz

WBA #2 heavyweight Luis “El Mercedez” Ortiz (19-0, 16 KOs) will no longer appear on the November 26 co-feature of the Golden Boy Live! show at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. The only explanation was that Ortiz will now be moved to a later date to be announced. The undefeated Cuban heavyweight was also pulled off the October 16 card at the Steel Stacks Arts Quest Center in Bethlehem, Pennslyvania. Ortiz’ lofty WBA #2 rating could land him a fight for the now vacant WBA “regular” heavyweight title.

Replacing Ortiz is unbeaten bantamweight Randy “El Matador” Caballero, who will be heading east for his Florida debut against local southpaw, Jessy Cruz in the new 10-round co-main event leading up to heavyweight Antonio Tarver’s comeback fight against Mike Sheppard.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
