Having improved to 6-0(6) with a quick, 1st-round stoppage of Matt Legg on last night’s massive show at Wembley, 2012 Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua is all set for his next pro outing. According to The Mail and other reports, Joshua will face former British, Commonwealth and European heavyweight champion Matt Skelton on July 12th in Liverpool. Skelton, 28-8(23) was as durable as they come back in his best days, when he was beating Danny Williams and Michael Sprott, yet he is now aged 47 and has not won a fight since 2012. Loser of his last two, when he was stopped in a couple of rounds by David Price and then out-pointed by John McDermott, Skelton has not boxed since March of last year. The Skelton of 2008 or 2009 would likely have given Joshua a stern test, but these days, some think it’s doubtful “The Bedford Bear” can extend Joshua past the 2nd-round, something no-one has yet done at pro level.
