Dominican super flyweight prospect Eliezer Aquino (9-0, 5 KOs) won the WBA Fedecentro belt from titleholder Juan Carlos Guzman (18-4, 9 KOs) with a spirited unanimous ten round decision this Saturday in La Romana, Dominican Republic. This was Aquino’s first fight after a three year layoff, against Guzman, a man walking into the ring with an 18 fight winning streak, so it came as a surprise to the fans that Eliezer jumped right on his rival from round one. Aquino’s superior speed and relentless pressure were the key to success in an action-packed bout. The judges saw Aquino win by a margin of 6, 5 and 4 points.
Another noteworthy result saw junior welterweight prospect Juan Carlos Abreu (8-0, 7 KOs) being taken the distance for the first time, winning a decision over difficult veteran Franklin Frias in six rounds.
