Today in Mexico City, three-time world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce and Angky Angkota met for the first time in the final press conference in route to their big championship showdown this Saturday for the WBO super flyweight championship that will be held at the “Plaza de Toros Arroyo” and to be telecast in the United States by Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports en Espanol as part of the new boxing series “Top Rank Live”. Arce (56-6-1, 40 KOs) of Los Mochis, Mexico and Angkota (23-4, 14 KOs) of Indonesia promised a great show in the main event of the big card promoted by Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer. In Mexico it will televised by Tv Azteca as part of their very popular series “Box Azteca”.

It was a packed house at a local hotel where Gullimermo Brito of Zanfer hosted the press conference that was very well attended by the media and also in attendance where the fighters of the co-main event Eduardo Escobedo (26-3, 19 KOs) of Mexico City and Jocksan Hernández (17-1, 10 KOs) of Ensenada, as well as female Mexican star Jackie Nava (29-3-2, 10 KOs) who will seek the WBC super bantamweight interim crown when she takes on Shantal “La Fiera” Martínez (8-3, 1 KO) of Panama.
Arce once again told the media that this is his last year in professional boxing, and hopes to make it one to remember.
“I have said before that this could be my last fight if I lose, but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I feel very motivated fighting here in Mexico City and I plan on walking out of the ring as a world champion on Saturday night. I will then defend the title twice more before retiring at the end of the year,” said Arce.
“I want to have time for my family and friends and to finish other projects that I have, but this Saturday night I will give the fans a great night of boxing and will give it my all for them and for my family who have always supported me,” added Arce.
Angkota who made a long trip just to get here, is also very confident of the victory.
“I come to give the fans a great show and to take home the championship belt. It’s my time and Arce is on his way out,” said Angkota.
During the press conference the WBC gave Zanfer an award for the great promotions they had in 2009 through-out Mexico.
The weigh-in is schedule is for 2:00 p.m on Friday at the office of the Mexico Boxing Commission.
For the WBO championship fight between Arce and Angkota the referee will be Emmanuel Viruet of California, and the three judges at ringside will be Ruben Garcia of New Mexico, Alejandro Lopez of Mexico and Clark San Martino of California.
For the WBC female championship fight the referee will be Gelasio Perez, and the judges will be Miguel Moran, David Candido and Juan Campo of all them from Mexico.
