The charismatic and popular world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce will return to the ring on Saturday, April 24 to take on Cecilio Santos in the main event of “Top Rank Live” to be telecast by Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports en Español. The 12-round battle will take place at the new Multi Use Center of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico and will include the 2010 debut of the undefeated contender Miguel “Barreterito” Beltran of Los Mochis who will take on tough guy Jockson Hernandez of Ensenada in a 10 round super featherweight bout. Arce (53-6-1, 40 KOs) of nearby Los Mochis is the current WBO junior bantamweight champion; a title he won in January in Mexico City by stopping Angky Angkota, also on “Top Rank Live.”
“Ciudad Obregon has always been a great boxing town and I’m very happy to be able to fight here. It’s also only two hours away from my hometown of Los Mochis and my family and friends will be able to see me fight in person, something that is not always possible,” said Arce.
Santos (24-13-3, 14 KOs) of Mexico City is no stranger to Ciudad Obregon having fought there for a world championship against Fernando Montiel back in 2007.
Arce, one of the most popular fighters in Mexico, wants to become the first fighter from Mexico to win four world titles in four different divisions as he has won the WBC and WBO 108-pound title, the WBC Interim 112-pound title and is now the WBO 115-pound champion.
“My goal is to win four world titles in four different weight divisions and I hope to have a chance to accomplish that this summer,” said Arce who is looking to face Eric Morel in the summer for the WBO interim 118 pound title.
Beltran (22-0, 15 KOs) is coming off a big year in 2009 when he won the featherweight title of “Campeon Azteca”, a reality boxing show that was broadcast nationwide in Mexico over commercial television and made him a celebrity south of the border.
Beltran, who is only 19-years-old, is taking on a real warrior in Hernandez (17-2, 10 KOs) who represents his toughest foe to date. There will be seven more professional fights in the “Battle of The Yaqui” card.
