Former multi-division world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce (64-7-2, 49 KOs) had to use all his experience to defeat Jorge Lacierva (42-10-6, 27 KOs) in the eighth round before a sellout of 5,000 fans at the Arena Metropolitana “Jorge Cuesy” in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico. Arce dropped Lacierva in round four with a hook to the liver, but was deducted two points in round five. Arce was also cut over both eyes. In the eighth round, Lacierva complained of an injury in his right shoulder and could no longer go out to fight. With the win, Arce could face WBC featherweight champion Johnny Gonzalez in September.
