The attractive Zanfer boxing show featuring three time world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce (51-5-1, 39 KOs) against Fernando Lunmacad (19-1, 7 KOs) that was scheduled for June 20 in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, will now take place in the border town of Tijuana, Baja California. The event now billed as “Desafio en Tijuana” will take place in the Auditorio Munucipal de Tijuana and will be televised by TV Azteca and Azteca America.
Promoter Fernando Beltran credited Tijuana mayor Jorge Ramos for bringing the fight to the city. “Tijuana has the honour of hosting [another] first level boxing show,” said Beltran. “With the last international event with Chávez Jr, “Zorrita” Soto and “Cochulito” Montiel, Tijuana showed the world that it is a safe city and that Tijuana is ready to have great sport events, like the one this June 20 with “Travieso.”
Beltran also confirmed that in the show will include a rematch between super flyweights Jocksan Hernández (15-1, 9 KOs) and Andrés Romero (13-1, 7 KOs) in a ten-rounder, as well as a bout featuring the legend’s son Omar “Businessman” Chavez (14-0-1, 11 KOs) plus seven more professional fights.
Jorge “Travieso” Arce is Tijuana’s adoptive son, where he developed like a professional fighter and where he received his first world title in December of 1998 when he defeated Juan Domingo Cordova from Argentina by decision at the Auditorio Munucipal and became WBC mini flyweight champion.
“Tijuana is my second home, I became a fighter here, I have lots of friends, and lots of fans that have always supported me, I am really excited to present myself again in beautiful Tijuana. Thanks to Tijuana’s mayor, Mr. Jorge Ramos, we’re able to offer an incredible show to this amazing public in Tijuana,” said Arce, who hasn’t fought in the Baja California city since September of 2004, when he defended his WBC world title at flyweight by defeating Juanito Rubillar from the Philippines.
