The popular and charismatic three-time world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce and Cecilio Santos made their April 24 showdown official on Wednesday, as they will meet in a 12 round elimination bout in the main event of “Top Rank LIve” in the Multi Use Center of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora. “Ciudad Obregon is a great boxing city and I wanted to fight here one more time because I have many friends and is close enough to my hometown to have my family come and see me. I want to give them a great and entertaining fight,” said Arce, today in a press conference to announce “The Battle of the Yaqui.”

Arce (53-6-1, 40 KO’s) of Los Mochis, is the current WBO jr bantamweight champion and has also held the WBO & WBC Miniflyweight championship and the WBC Interim Flyweight crown.

“I expect a very tough fight from Santos. He is a very experienced boxer who has fought for the world title a few times and will come to win the fight, but I will be ready for him,” said Arce.

Santos (24-13-3, 14 KO’s) of Mexico City, has fought three times for a world title and is looking for a fourth opportunity against Arce. The fight is a WBO Bantamweight eliminator with the winner to fight Eric Morel for the WBO Bantamweight championship in the summer.

“This fight against Arce will not only be one of the most important of my career but it will also open the door for another title opportunity and I would like to be a world champion before I end my professional career,” said Santos.

Fernando Beltran, president of Promociones Zanfer, is sure that this card will be very successful.

“It has always been a joy to promote Jorge Arce, a boxer that comes to fight and gives it all every time he steps into the ring. I expect a full house for what should be a very good card,” said Beltran.

In the co-main event, the young undefeated prospect, Miguel “Barreterito” Beltran (22-0, 15 KO’s) of Los Mochis, will surely face the toughest opponent of his career when he takes on Jocksan Hernandez (17-2, 10 KO”s) of Ensenada in a fight that has action written all over it.

The card will be promoted by Zanfer and Top Rank Inc. and it will be televised in the United States on Fox Sports Net (FSN) and Fox Sports en Espanol.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.
