Arce to face Mijares April 10

Francisco “Panchito” Arce has a score to settle with former world champion Cristian Mijares on April 10 at the Palenque de la Feria de Durango in Durango, Mexico. Arce (30-5-2, 21 KOs) and Mijares (38-6-2, 17 KOs) meet in an elimination bout for the WBC bantamweight championship. Mijares, formerly a WBC/WBA unified flyweight champion, is trying to get back to the top after after three defeats in a row in world title fights, while “Panchito” gets the opportunity to redeem himself after coming up short against Simphiwe Nongqayi in a 2008, IBF superfly eliminator. Furthermore, “Panchito,” the youngest brother of three-time world champion Jorge “Travieso” Arce (who lost badly against Mijares in April 2007), has a chance to restore the family honor. Arce is training in Mexico City in the Romanza Gym with Nacho Beristaín.
The event will also feature the return of former WBO welterweight champion Jose Luis “Maestrito” Lopez (48-4-2, 37 KOs).
