Arum: Mayweather missed deadline

By Karl Freitag

At midnight PT/3AM ET, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum announced that Floyd Mayweather has missed the deadline for exclusive negotiations for a showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather. Arum revealed that HBO’s Ross Greenburg had seemingly brokered a deal with Mayweather’s manager Al Haymon, but Mayweather hasn’t signed on. Arum said he will now be talking to the camps of Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito next week about fighting Manny in November, although if Mayweather comes out of hibernation before a deal is made with Cotto or Margarito, Pacquiao-Mayweather could still be made. Arum stated he believes that Floyd has a good reason for not committing to the fight, perhaps the uncertainty over the availability trainer Roger Mayweather due to legal problems.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
