Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum told the LA Times that former three-division world champion Miguel Cotto likely is headed toward a clash with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez on June 7 in New York City on the weekend of the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. “I’m optimistic that fight is going to happen. It isn’t done yet, but there’s some magic in Miguel fighting in the New York area that weekend,” Arum told The Times. Cotto has passed on a proposed March fight with Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas. The WBC has mandated that Martinez defend against Marco Antonio Rubio next, but with Martinez out of action since April with injuries, Rubio may fight for an interim belt instead.
