WBA light flyweight champion in recess Brahim Asloum announced his retirement from the ring Sunday on the French national television (France 2). Due the end of his partnership with Canal +, the French boxer, gold medalist at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, said “The desire is there, but I’m obliged to stop. It is not possible to hold a big boxing event in France. I’m hurt because it takes away five or six years of my life. I am extremely angry with Canal + (The network which televised all his professional fights).” Asloum is the only French Olympic champion who then managed to become a world champion (WBA). He compiled a record of 24-2 with 10 KOs.
