Lightweight Ramon “Nino de Oro” Ayala (15-1-1, 7 KOs) is one of the latest propects out of Mexico, that great hotbed of Latin talent. The 21-year-old is presently Erik Morales’ choiced sparring partner and will fighting on the same card as Morales on March 27th. Then, on April 24th the youngster will be facing his first major test, be battling for the WBC World Youth title against an opponent TBA.
Ayala turned pro at the age of 17 after a sterling amateur career in which he won almost all of Mexico’s cadet and junior tournaments.
The personable young man is however being brought on slowly by manager Jacques Deschamps who states “Ramon is still learning his trade. Diamonds have to be polished, as you know.”
Ayala is particularly proud to have been selected by Morales for his sparring, “It’s an honor to be training with a great champion like Morales and it’s a fantastic learning experience for me.”
So, to those boxing fans who will be watching Erik Morales’ return bout, keep an eye on Ramon Ayala fighting on the undercard.
