Balszay to face Gutknecht

Former WBO super middleweight champion Karoly Balszay (21-1, 15 KOs) will fight for the first time since losing his world title in August when he takes on unbeaten Eduard “Eddy” Gutknecht (17-0, 7 KOs) on December 4 at the Austrian wintersport mecca of Sölden. The bout will be for Gutknecht’s WBO Intercontinental belt with the winner expected to challenge WBO world champion Robert Stieglitz. Both Balszay and Gutknecht know each other well because they both train in Hamburg’s famous Universum Gym.

Eduard Gutknecht: “We know each other from Hamburg, but we’re in different training groups. I’m with Magomed Schaburow. Karoly is with Fritz Sdunek and Artur Grigorian. One of us is going fade out [of the title picture], so for us this is about everything!”

Karoly Balzsay: “Naturally it was very disappointing in Budapest to lose in front of all my relatives and friends. It’s good that I’m now returning to the ring quickly to show my strength.”

The fight will be televised live on RTL-Hungary with DSF showing highlights the following day in Germany.
