Banks-Mitchell latest fight to fall through

The devastating run of February fight cancellations continues with Johnathon Banks reportedly pulling out of his February 16 rematch with Seth Mitchell due to a broken thumb suffered in sparring. The bout was to be the HBO co-feature for WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner’s defense against Gavin Rees.

So far this month, we have already lost the entire card featuring WBC/WBA super lightweight champion Danny Garcia vs Zab Judah on February 9th, plus IBF champion Devon Alexander vs. Kell Brook on February 23 (both to be televised on Showtime) and now Banks-Mitchell. All three cards are promoted by Golden Boy.

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
