WBO light heavyweight champion Zsolt Erdei retained his world championship on the scale Friday when challenger Yuri Barashian stunningly was unable to make weight for their world title clash on Saturday in Magdeburg, Germany. As previously reported, Barashian initially weighed in at 176.8 pounds. After trying for two hours to lose the overage, Barashian was still 1.22 pounds over the division limit. The bout will now go on as scheduled, but as a non-title affair. Erdei, who won the title five years ago, has made ten successful defenses during that time. In a second world title bout, both Denis Inkin and Karoly Balszay made weight for their highly anticipated WBO super middleweight collision between unbeatens on the first “Universum Champions Night” of 2009.
