Former world title challenger Jonathan Barros (30-1-1, 17 KOs) of Argentina stopped countryman Gustavo David Bermudez (10-5, 4 KOs) by way of first round KO. The official time was 2:44. The super featherweight clash took place Saturday night at the Polideportivo San Pedro, San Martin, in Mendoza, Argentina. The first half of the round was some what of a feeling out process but the few meaningful punches that did land were by Barros. Barros turned it up as the round was closing unloading a barrage of punches. The final punch was the telling one which was a left to the body that put Bermudez down. He did get to his feet but didn’t beat the count and was in no condition to continue had he done so. Barros unsuccessfully challenged WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa this past March dropping a unanimous decision. During the post fight interview in the ring a surprised Barros was informed that he would fight Irving Berry of Panama for the WBA interim featherweight title December 4th in Argentina. The event was televised by Argentina’s cable sports giant TyC Sports with Osvaldo Rivero promoting.
