Former world title challenger Rey ‘Boom Boom’ Bautista (30-2, 23 KOs) has his hand raised after stopping Alejandro Barrera (21-4, 14 KOs) of Mexico at 2:56 of round 3 today in Cebu City, Philippines. Though the fight didnt last long it was a thriller while it lasted as both fighters went toe to toe from the opening bell. “The crowd was on their feet for the entire fight” stated Cebu City based Michael Lopez who worked the corner of Barrera. The two slugged it out on even terms the first two rounds. However, in round three Bautista dropped Barrera with a left hook to liver. Barrera got back to his feet and beat the count. . Bautista sensing the end was near jumped on Barrerra pinning him against the ropes and unloaded a barrage of punches which led Barrera to take a knee. This time Barrera was really hurt and not going to get up. The referee meanwhile counted him out at 10 marking the end to the fight. The main event bout took place at Cebu City at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino and was promoted by ALA Boxing Promotions.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
