Behind GBP’s NYSAC suspension
By Karl Freitag and Flattop
Fightnews.com has learned the details behind the New York State Athletic Commission’s suspension of Golden Boy Promotions. Oscar De La Hoya’s promotional powerhouse was placed under administrative suspension over a snafu involving the NYSAC’s request for promotional agreements involving the May 15 Amir Khan-Paul Malignaggi event in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Golden Boy Promotions COO David Itskowitch explained to Fightnews that since those agreements contain confidentiality clauses and New York is a “public information state,” the Muhammad Ali Act provides for those documents to be submitted to the Association of Boxing Commissions, which has been done. Itskowitch, added that the NYSAC had never given him a deadline nor communicated that a suspension was being considered. We would expect this to be cleared up in fairly short order one the NYSAC, the ABC and Golden Boy get on the same page.
