Philadelphia hero Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins hosted an open media workout Tuesday at the Joe Hand Boxing Gym where he is preparing for “The Broad Street Brawl”, his December 2 bout against Enrique Ornelas at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA which will be broadcast live on VERSUS. “Enrique Ornelas is a Mexican fighter. They fight with guts; it’s in their DNA and Enrique has a lot to gain and nothing to lose,” stated Hopkins. “He wants to come make a name off of me on December 2nd.

As for the return of big-time boxing to the “City of Brotherly Love,” Hopkins stated, “The future of boxing in Philly is currently at a standstill. What better way to jumpstart it than with Bernard Hopkins? “We haven’t had monthly shows in Philly for a long time, since the early 90’s when it used to be packed on Broad Street. I put a lot of pressure on myself to stay motivated because I’m motivated by the future. This is the future of boxing and the future of boxing in Philadelphia.”
At the age of 44, Hopkins remains impeccably conditioned. “This was not any harder this year than last year or the year before last,” he commented. “On December 2nd, you’re going to see how well I took care of myself over all of these years because I’m two months shy of my forty-fifth birthday.”
