Bilal Laggoune wins WBC Mediterranean title

Yengoyan decisions Ayoub at Round XIII show in Gent, Belgium

Bilal Laggoune won the vacant WBC Mediterranean cruiserweight title knocking out overmatched Laszlo Hubert in 2 rounds. The local boy dropped Hubert in the first with a left to the body. The visitor never recovered from that and was down again in the second. Hubert took the full count on his knees. Laggoune will be seen back in action on May 31 in Ninove, Belgium. Brother Ezzedine vowed to promote in Ninove Bilal’s first title defense against a better opponent.

In the co-main event Sasha Yengoyan battered Ayoub Nefzi to a wide 10 round unanimous decision. It was scored 100-88 and twice 99-90. Powerful Yengoyan was in command from the start and Nefzi Ayoub was never able to get into the fight with his better technique. Yengoyan was cut over the right eye by the end of the 1st and also over the left in the 4th, both times from accidental head clashes. It became a bloody affair when also Ayoub was bleeding heavily from round 6 on visibly from a broken nose. Things didn’t go better for Ayoub when he was deducted a point in round 9 after he lost his mouthpiece ones too much.

Ryad Merhy did what was expected from him and stopped Paata Berikashvili at the start of round 3. Also Merhy should now face better opposition.

Ismael Abdoul stopped Levan Jomardashvilli in another mismatch. The visitor was down in the 1st. Then went down a few times too easily and the ref refused to pick up a count. Jomardashvilli was down again in the 3rd and when he went to the canvas in the 4th the one-sided affair was waved off.

The show was promoted by Claude Vandenheede (BGB promotion) at the Topsporthal Vlaanderen, Gent, Belgium
