Heavyweight Frans Botha outweighed Joseph Parker by 30 pounds in advance of their eight round clash clash on Thursday night at the Trusts Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand. Botha weighed 256.8 while Parker scaled in at 226.8. The 44-year-old Botha (48-9-3, 29 KOs) will be fighting “Down Under” for the second time this year. In February, Botha lost to Sonny Bill Williams in a controversial fight in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The 21-year-old Parker (5-0, 4 KOs) trained for this fight in Las Vegas with Kevin Barry.

The undercard features a female light welterweight clash between Daniella Smith (12-3, 0 KOs) and late sub Arlene Blencowe (2-0, 1 KO) for the vacant WIBA and WBF belts.

The card will also include a controversial “dwarf boxing” bout between Matthew Wood and Colin Lane, and the pro debut of Botha’s son Marcel Botha.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
