Botha denies doping

Heavyweight Frans Botha has confirmed that he did take a pre-fight urine test, but denied ingesting banned substances. “Why would I go and do this crazy stuff? To go drink something that makes you sleepy, that you can’t open your eyes, that lowers your blood pressure. What the hell is that?” Botha said on New Zealand’s leading current affairs program “Campbell Live.” Botha also pointed out that the drug test was administered and handled by a family member of Williams’ manager Khoder Nasser. Nasser denied any tampering stating “The pathology company is a very reputable pathology company in Australia,” and challenged Botha to have another test done in South Africa. Also the WBA has confirmed to that the bout was indeed sanctioned by the WBA. “We had it reserved for the bout and paperwork was done but we are checking on why our WBA supervisor did not travel,” WBA vice president Gilberto J. Mendoza informed us.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
