Botha to face Fischer

On October 24th in Dessau, Germany, the ‘White Buffalo’ Francois Botha (47-4-2, 28 KOs) wants to hunt down his next German prey, Willi ‘The Ox’ Fischer (37-6-1, 24 KOs), after already upsetting Timo Hoffmann last May. The last time Dessau hosted professional boxing in 2007, Natascha Ragosina delighted a sold-out audience in the Anhalt-Arena in a world title fight. “It’s about time the city plays host again to a big boxing event,” said Dessau’s sports director Ralf Hirsch, after vehemently lobbying his city with promoter SES Boxing. DSF television will broadcast the heavyweight clash between the ‘Buffalo’ and the ‘Ox’ live in Germany. The appearance of Francois Botha in Dessau is the most large-scale boxing event ever in the city.

“It will take a long time for Dessau to top this occasion,” confirmed promoter Ulf Steinforth, explaining: “SES Boxing feels a special bond with the city, because it was here 10 years ago that we organized our very first boxing event. Now we will give something back to Dessau, namely a stirring fight at very reasonable ticket prices.”

For South Africa’s Botha, it will be his inaugral ring appearance since signing with SES Boxing (and its partner Fight Production) in July.

“Botha is a big name still in heavyweight boxing and I can imagine many attractive options for him. We are especially happy that his initial outing for us takes place at the Anhalt-Arena,” said Steinforth. For the former IBF champion, this is the second defense of his WBF title.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
