Carney “Beeper “ Bowman returns to the ring this Saturday night, July 31st, in his hometown of York, Pennsylvania in the main event of ‘The Battle of York V” at the Sovereign Bank Baseball Stadium.
Sporting an undefeated record of 14-0-0 with six knockouts, Bowman will battle Puerto Rico’s Robert Acevedo, 9-10-3 (1KO) in the junior lightweight main event.
While preparing for the showdown with Acevedo, Bowman trained in Houston, Texas, sparring often with perennial contender Rocky Juarez.
“Training in Houston was terrific; I’d like to work there for all of my fights in the future. Rocky and I have similar styles and we both got great work for our upcoming fights.” Juarez is also fighting on Saturday night, against Jorge Linares in Las Vegas.
Last summer, Bowman headlined the first baseball stadium event, brutally stopping Delvin Placencia in the third round.
“The feeling of fighting at the ballpark is just terrific. The whole town has been very supportive again this year. As soon as the weather got warmer I had people in York asking if there was going to be one this year.”
In regards to the current state of his career, Bowman said, “I need to fight more often; I’d like to have at least two more bouts this year after Saturday night. I don’t know too much about Acevedo but I feel confident that I’ve put the work in and I’ll be victorious Saturday night.”
The undercard at ‘The Battle of York V” features a lineup of world class prospects and local fan favorites including sensational, undefeated junior welterweight Terence Crawford, cruiserweight contender Andres “TaylorMade” Taylor, York’s Stevie Weimer and Eric Nemo, pro debuting Alantez Fox and veteran road warrior Doel Carrasquillo of Lancaster, PA.
A full slate of amateur bouts will precede the professional portion starting at 4pm.
The Sovereign Bank Stadium is located at 5 Brooks Robinson Way in York, Pennsylvania.
