Boxing back in Rochester, NY

By Bob Caico

Undefeated middleweight prospect Willie Monroe, Jr. looks to improve on his 9-0 record in his hometown on Friday night. The Rochester, NY native takes on Mickey Scarborough (6-2) of Kansas City in the eight-round main event on a card co-promoted by Resnick Productions and DiBella Entertainment. Monroe, Jr. is the nephew of former contender Willie “The Worm” Monroe and son of a tough fighter in the 1990’s Willie Monroe. Those relationships have not gone unnoticed. “Willie has some great blood lines,” says his promoter Lou DiBella. “Not only is he a great boxer but a good kid too. I think he is the most talented young fighter who is under the radar right now.”

In the co-main event, welterweight Kenny Abril (10-3-1) also of Rochester will do battle with Javier Perez (7-3) of Ponce, PR.

A total of seven bouts are scheduled to take place at the Main Street Armory in downtown Rochester. Tickets can be purchased at any Ticket Master locations or by calling 585-576-9699.
